SC Angus News
October 10, 2004
Windy Bartee, sec. SCAA
As November approaches, plans are being made for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year 2005 already. We are counting our blessings, among them our Angus herd.
The South Carolina Angus Association gathered at Logans Roadhouse, 53 Beacon Drive in Greenville, SC, to plan the Carolina Futurity for March 19 at Clemsons Garrison Arena when some of our best Angus will be offered for sale. We plan to have the South Carolina Angus Associations Annual Meeting and Banquet the night before on Friday, March 18.
Gene Pruitt, the SC Angus Association president led the group in their discussion of the forthcoming Futurity. Last year the silent auction was very successful, making over $3,000 with the hard work of Stephanie Clark. It could be an added event again, if the juniors want to use it for a fundraiser for their activities.
Walter Shealy, SCAA vice president and chairman of the Futurity, went over some of the costs and expenses to see how the profits could be improved.
Advertising opportunities are some of our added blessings. The South Carolina Angus members will sell ad pages at auction at the Futurity banquet for the new directory. We will also start accepting ads on our new SC Angus Association Web page for $50/month. If you have an ad that you would like to run contact Windy Bartee. The Angus Journal will charge an initial fee for the set up as well. Watch for more on this. A third place to advertise will be our newsletter that goes out several times a year. A flyer or one-page ad for an upcoming sale will be included in our newsletter for $100 per event. Contact Windy Bartee to work out the timing for your ad in the newsletter.
Reminder that these sales are coming up for you to add Angus blessings to your herd:
Sunday, October 31- Walter Shealys Black Grove Farm Mature Cow Dispersal, 20977 US Hwy. 76, Newberry, SC. Call 803/924-1000 or 803/276-9385 for more information.
Saturday, November 6- The Yon Family Farms Fall Sale of 50 coming two-year old bulls and 50 females both Angus and Charlois at Hwy 392, Ridge Spring, SC. Call 803/685-5048 or kyon@pbtcomm.net for more information.
As this Thanksgiving approaches, we can be thankful for family and friends. Sandy Mullikin reported that the All Day Benefit for Justin Potter and Paul Smith on September 18 at Dr. Poag Reids Farm, was a great success. Because of the hard work in planning of 80 friends and the generous support of many others, the community raised $34,000 to help with medical expenses. Thank you to all who helped make the day a success. The families must feel your love and concern as they suffer their loss.
Good representatives are a blessing to our South Carolina Angus Association. The American Angus members from South Carolina elected delegates, Kevin Yon, Ridge Springs; Evelyn Edmunds, Clover; and Ted Bartee, Clover; to represent them at the American Angus Associations 121st Annual Meeting on Monday, November 15 in Louisville, Kentucky. The alternates were Gene Pruitt, Abbeville, Ted Bourne, Donalds; and Walter Shealy, Newberry. The Annual Meeting is conducted in conjunction with the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE), which includes a Super-Point Roll of Victory (ROV) Angus show.
The election of officers and five members to the Association Board of Directors will highlight the Annual Meeting, which is set for 2 p.m. at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center (KFEC). Elected delegates and other attendees will hear annual reports of the Association and its entities for fiscal year (FY) 2004.
The Annual Banquet will be Monday evening at the Executive West Hotel. Special honorees at the banquet will include inductees into the Angus Heritage Foundation and the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) Outstanding Leadership Award winner.
The Angus show schedule will be the same this year as it was last year. The junior show will be Sunday, Nov. 14; the ROV bulls and cow-calf pairs will show Monday, Nov. 15; and ROV females will show Tuesday, Nov. 16. For more information contact American Angus Association at (816) 383-5100 or go to www.angus.org.
As our blessings are counted this year, let us remember those who live in countries and places who do not share in all our freedoms and abundance. Let us pray each day will bring us closer to abundance, freedom and peace for all the world.
