South Carolina Angus News
Windy Bartee
Sept. 8, 2005
Autumn is here.
Leaves are falling,
Brown, yellow and red.
The weather is cooler
And the flies are dead.
The hays in the barn
The cows are fed.
The calves are weaned.
Into the ring my heifer is led.
Waiting on the judge,
I dread
Standing last in line at her head.
What?
Were first this time, the judge has said.
Fall brings us to the Angus show time at the county fairs. Some of the main events are the state fairs. October 14 is the SC State Fair Open Angus Show, followed by the Junior Angus on October 15 at the fairgrounds in Columbia, SC. North Carolina follows next with the Open Angus Show on October 18. Look for our juniors at the head of the line in the ring.
November will start with the Yon Family Farms Fall Bull and Female Sale on November 5 at noon in Ridge Spring, SC. For information call the Yons at 803-685-5048 or e-mail at kyon@pbtcomm.net. The Web site is www.yonfamilyfarms.com.
Many of our Angus breeders will travel to Louisville, KY for the North American International Livestock Exposition. The Angus will be there during November 13-15.
Make plans for Annual Meeting
Now is the time to make plans to attend the Associations 122nd Annual Convention of Delegates, which is set for Monday, Nov. 14, in Louisville. The Annual Meeting is conducted in conjunction with the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE), which includes a Super Roll of Victory (ROV) Angus show. The election of officers and five members to the Association Board of Directors will highlight the Annual Meeting, scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center (KFEC). Elected delegates and other attendees will hear annual reports of the Association and its entities for fiscal year (FY) 2005.
The Annual Banquet will be Monday evening at the Executive West Hotel. Special honorees at the banquet will include the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) Outstanding Leadership Award winner and inductees into the Angus Heritage Foundation.
The Angus show schedule will be the same this year as it was last year. The junior show will be Sunday, Nov. 13; the ROV bulls and cow-calf pairs will show Monday, Nov. 14; and ROV females will show Tuesday, Nov. 15.
South Carolina American Angus members elected the following to represent them at the Annual Meeting.
Delegates:
- Kevin Yon, Ridge Spring
- Walter Shealy III, Newberry
- Ted R. Bartee, Clover
Alternates:
- Evelyn G. Edmunds, Clover

This summer the members of the South Carolina Angus Association elected new officers by mailed ballot. The votes have been tallied. They follow here:

The newly elected directors are Danny Winchester and William Rushton. Neil Boyd was elected to a second term. Other directors that are serving are Stephanie Clark, David McMahan, Kevin Yon, Mike Johnson, Lewis Smith and Frankie Mullikin.
These officers will be meeting to plan the 35th Carolina Futurity for March 17-18 at Clemson. Watch for more about this event.
One event that is a non-event for 2006 is the SC AG EXPO.
Well, back to the poetry
The flies are dead.
Angus are black.
My poetry skills surely are slack.
