Clemson Bull Sale

South Carolina has had the first of four bull sales, one on each of the Saturdays in February. The Clemson Bull sale was first. So many people came that the late vehicles had to park across the road. Inside the barn the stands were full with standing room only.

The top bull by index (8.73) was Angus and belonged to Dr. Rodger and Stephanie Clark. He was sired by SVF Bandolier with a 5.02 lbs. average daily gain (ADG) and 3.71lbs. weight daily average (WDA). He did not make an appearance in the sale ring. Stephanie Clark of Riverhill Farm said, “ We took him home to use as our clean-up bull.”

The top junior bull was an Angus owned by Chuck Traxler of Trax Cattle of St. George. He was sired by VDAR Legend 1281. He had an index of 7.88 with 4.35 lb. ADG and 3.58 lb. WDA. Marvin Zeigler of MPAC had the top selling bull with the index 7.64, ADG 4.14 and WDA of 3.50. Gary Burns of Clemson bought the MPAC bull for $5100. He was sired by B/R New Frontier 095. Dr. Larry Olson, who coordinated the bull-testing program said, “ We had a good bull sale and an excellent heifer sale.” The heifer prices ranged from $675 to $1025.

If you have any information for the SC Angus Association, please send the information to Windy Bartee, sec. SCAA, at 1717 St. Paul Church Road, Clover, SC 29710 or tumblet8@bellsouth.net
Banner ads may be placed on the Web site www.scangus.org for $50/month plus the set up fee.

Happy New Year to all you Angus lovers from SC and afar. The wise men traveled from afar about this time of year 2000 years ago. (Tradition says the wise men reached the manger with their gifts on January 6 - Epiphany). They were looking for the new king to bring peace on earth.

The American Angus Association has planned an Outreach Meeting for SC and the southeast in conjunction with our Carolina Futurity banquet and sale. Jim Shirley of the American Angus Association writes, “Each year, the American Angus Association (AAA) tries to hold an informational outreach meeting in each of the Regional Managers’ territories. We think we could have the Outreach Seminar at 3:00 PM on March 16th at the sale facility. This would allow for people to attend and still have time to be ready for the activities of the South Carolina Angus Association.

“The Outreach Seminars are intended to allow AAA staff to give an update on programs and activities of the Association and to get feedback from the members. They usually last from 1 ½ to 2 hours and allow time for plenty of interaction. We are excited about the opportunity to come to South Carolina and have an Outreach Meeting. If you would like more information, or have any thoughts, please give me a call.” Telephone: (816) 383-5100 or jshirley@angus.org.

Each November the American Angus Association has its annual meeting in conjunction with the Angus show at the NAILE in Louisville, Ky. Walter Shealy, Kevin Yon and Ted Bourne traveled afar to serve as delegates for the South Carolina Angus Association on November 13, 2006. As a result of their votes, Jot Hartley, Vinita, Okla., was elected president of the American Angus Association. This was the American Angus Association’s 123rd annual convention of delegates.

Ted Bourne, grandfather of Breann Steadman of Cedar Creek, was also there to show Breann’s January 2006 heifer in the open show. Her heifer placed 4th out of 15 in her class. Ted Bourne plans to take both heifers for Teddi and Breann Steadman to the Denver show in January.

If you are interested in traveling afar for Angus shows, look for the Angus stars in the west. Five days of Angus events, including the 2007 Super Point Roll of Victory (ROV) Angus Show, junior heifer show, pen and carload show and the National Western Angus Bull Sale are planned during the 101st National Western Stock Show in Denver. Colo. Angus events kick off on Tuesday, January 9 and happen daily through Saturday, January 13.

May your days of the 2007 New Year bring you health, happiness and many little Angus to lie down in your green pastures. We pray peace will find us all.
