As this holiday season approaches we have much for which to be thankful … We only wish we could be thanking God for rain and lots of it. We are patiently waiting for those prayers to be answered. Talk about global warming …we are more worried about global dryness, especially in South Carolina. Well so much for the weather report.

Now for some more Angus news to be thankful. The South Carolina Angus Association officers and directors met at Logan’s Roadhouse in Greenville on October 28 to begin planning for the Carolina Angus Futurity and SCAA annual meeting and banquet on March 14 and 15, 2008, at Clemson. Hold those dates.

Another item discussed was a scholarship to be given in memory of Daniel Jarrard, the young SC junior killed in a tragic vehicle accident. A fund has been established in his memory. Contributions may be sent to: SCAA for the Daniel Jarrard Memorial Scholarship, c/o Mike Johnson, 4368 Indian Creek Road, Kinards, SC 29355.

AAA 2007 Annual Meeting

By the time you read this your SC delegates will have met in Louisville, KY, for elections and the Angus show. Kevin Yon, Evelyn Edmunds and Walter Shealy were the delegates. Alternates were Ted Bourne, Ted Bartee, and Neil McPhail. “Members of the American Angus Association are in Louisville, Kentucky for the 124th Annual Convention of Delegates, set for November 10-13. A full schedule of meetings, educational programs, social opportunities and shows are set during the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE).” From “News You Can Use” at www.angus.org.

Many little Angus were born in South Carolina according to the press release from the American Angus Associaton.

The
AMERICAN ANGUS ASSN. ANNOUNCES
THE TEN SOUTH CAROLINA BREEDERS WHO
REGISTERED THE MOST ANGUS

The 10 producers who registered the most Angus beef cattle in the state of South Carolina recorded a total of 1147 Angus with the American Angus Association® during fiscal year 2007, which ended September 30, according to John Crouch, executive vice president of the American Angus Association.

The 10 top recorders in South Carolina are: Black Crest Farms, Sumter, 379-head; Yon Family Farms, Ridge Spring, 271; Walter Shealy III, Newberry, 85; Sarratt Farms, Gaffney, 85; Tokeena Angus Farms, Seneca, 76-head; Double B Farms, Bamberg, 66; Clemson Univ Edisto, Blackville, 55; Happy Trails Farm, Saluda, 48; Paul Boyd Angus Farm, Clover, 43-head; Mull Meadow Farm, Pendleton, 39.

Angus breeders across the nation in 2007 registered 347,755 head of Angus cattle. “The year-end statistics indicate a strong demand for Angus genetics in commercial herds as producers continue to focus on end-product quality and its effect on their bottom line,” Crouch said.

The American Angus Association, headquartered in Saint Joseph, Missouri, is the largest beef registry association in the world in terms of both annual registrations and active members. For more information about the Angus breed go to www.angus.org.

Meanwhile thanks for our SC successes. Our Angus breeders from near and far competed at the South Carolina State Fair in Columbia on October 19-20. Ann Blumer, SCJAA president and the newly-elected director of the American Junior Angus Association, helped as ringperson in her new capacity, sporting her new “green coat.” The winners of the classes are listed below.
