Thanksgiving brings many blessings to mind such as our freedom, family, health, Angus and fun at the fairs with our Angus. In South Carolina the state fair took place in October. The Angus s Open show was on Friday, October 17 at 10:00 AM. TheJjunior Angus show was Saturday, October 18 at 1 PM. The results will be available later.
However some of the county fairs’ 4-H results are in. The York County Fall Livestock Show took place at Doug Smith’s Triple Creek Farm outside Rock Hill on Highway 324 on September 12-13. In showmanship Courtney Epting won for ages 5 to 10, Charlie Westbrook( ages 11-14), and Danae Hicks (ages 15-20). York County’s John Petty won second in the senior division of showmanship.
In the 4-H Angus Beef Show John Petty won the Grand Champion with Pettys Legend Pride 607. The Reserve Grand Champion Angus was Erik Bowman’s Late Senior Calf, Stillwater Primrose Lady +48.
The class winners follow: John Petty had the Junior Calf winner with his Pettys Erica Eileen Lass 208. Late Senior Calf’s first place went to Erik Bowman with Stillwater Primrose Lady +48. Walt Bolin’s son, Dakota Bolin won Early Senior Calf with LCF Cactus 814 001. Pettys Legend Pride 607 was led by John Petty to win the Early Summer Yearling class. He also won the Late Junior Yearling class with Edmunds New Lass 0447.
November brings the annual meeting of the American Angus Association in Louisville, Ky during the North American International Livestock (NAILE) Exposition. South Carolina AAA members have elected delegates and alternates to represent them at the annual election of officers and directors there on November 16.

The 10 producers who registered the most Angus beef cattle in the state of South Carolina recorded a total of 997 Angus with the American Angus Association® during fiscal year 2008, which ended September 30, according to Bryce Schumann, chief executive officer of the American Angus Association.
The 10 top recorders in South Carolina are: Yon Family Farms, Ridge Spring, 404-head; Black Crest Farms, Sumter, 126; Walter Shealy III, Newberry, 83; Tokeena Angus Farms, Seneca, 79; Double B Farms, Bamberg, 75-head; Sarratt Farms, Gaffney, 63; Thomas Drake Yon, Ridge Spring, 46; Clemson Univ Edisto, Blackville, 46; Marvin D Cooper, Bennettsville, 42-head; Paul Boyd Angus Farm, Clover, 33.
Angus breeders across the nation in 2008 registered 333,766 head of Angus cattle. “Our year-end statistics continue to demonstrate strong demand and extensive market penetration that Angus genetics enjoy,” Schumann said. “These results underscore our members’ commitment to providing genetic solutions to the beef cattle industry.”
