In June the South Carolina Angus burst on the scene with their juniors at the Preview Show at Clemson. Following that three of the SC juniors traveled to the Eastern Regional Junior Angus Show in Columbus, Ohio on the last weekend in June. The show’s theme was “Lights,Camera….Angus.” At the opening ceremony each state had to present a celebrity from their state.. Our South Carolina Juniors chose Vanna White on the “Wheel of Fortune.” Breann Steadman played the role of Vanna who is from Myrtle Beach.

When the Angus classes began, Teddi Steadman and John Petty each won a first place with their bred and owned bulls. Teddi’s bull was Cedar Creek Net Worth 2805. John Petty’s bull, winning first, was Pettys Marshall Legend. Teddi Steadman placed fifth in her class with her bred and owned female. She also got a third with Cedar Creek Forever Lady 2765. She won seventh with her owned female.

In the classes with owned females Breann Steadman achieved a second with Dameron SW Elia Dolly 8181 and third with Gambles Elbrea 4028. John Petty won fifth and ninth with his bred and owned females. These South Carolina juniors were competing with 286 head from over the United States.

The showmanship contest brings out the competitive spirit in the juniors. Teddi Steadman made a great showing as she made the final cut to compete with the top contenders for her age in showmanship. Ted Bourne, advisor and grandfather, helped the juniors there get ready said, “A good time was had by all.”

Many more of our juniors plan to attend the National Junior Angus Show which will be held in our neighboring state, Georgia. The following news is copied from the www.angus.org web site about the NJAA and the LEAD that comes in August.

The NJAS, a "Sweet Southern Showdown" is being hosted by Georgia Angus enthusiasts in Perry, Ga., July 19-25. The red carpet will be rolled out early in the week as award-winning country music act Lady Antebellum performs during opening ceremonies. For more information about the weeklong shows and contests, visit NJAS Online.

The National Junior Angus Board has planned leadership and personal skill building activities for NJAA members 14-21 years old at this year's LEAD, "The Gold Gate to Opportunity." LEAD is set for Aug. 6-9 in San Francisco, Calif. Register early to secure your chance to learn more about California agriculture while developing lifelong friendships.

The end of the South Carolina summer brings the Beef Round-Up at Clemson on the first week-end in August (August 2-3). Be watching for those results when they come in.
