When March comes marching in, all eyes turn toward the Carolina Angus Futurity on March 20th at the Clemson Cattle Complex next to the T. Ed Garrison Arena. The best females from South Carolina are offered for sale, err…that is Angus females. Young Angus show youth eagerly look the lots over for a good prospect for the upcoming shows. Many of our Angus youth have begun showing with an animal found at the Futurity. Often they have gone on to become some of our best adult SC Angus breeders. The sale begins at noon on Saturday. Barbara Smith is seeking items for a silent auction to benefit the South Carolina juniors. Call Barbara at 864 - 261 - 6982 if you are willing to donate to the cause.

The real Futurity fun will begin on Friday night, March 19th at 6:00 PM. The South Carolina Angus Association members will gather at Tucker’s Restaurant in Anderson for the SCAA banquet and annual meeting. The new officers and directors will be introduced at the banquet. (The election was conducted by mailed ballots due by Jan. 31st.)

Those chosen for the dedication of the Futurity as well as those added to the SC Angus Hall of Fame will be named and honored.

History of the South Carolina Angus Hall of Fame

On March 16, 2007 a new tradition began. The officers and directors of the South Carolina Angus Association established the South Carolina Angus Hall of Fame. At the Carolina Angus Futurity banquet and annual meeting Walter Shealy, the president of SCAA that year named the members of that charter class. A special committee headed by Walter Shealy selected these nominees: W.H. McPhail, Dell Owens, Ernie Craig and Evelyn Edmunds. Most of the families of the charter class were able to attend. Evelyn Edmunds was amazed to see so many of her family there. Then she learned why. The surprise was that she was selected as part of the charter class.

The next year the SC Angus Hall of Fame was expanded by adding Jeff Richardson, Shirley Brown, and Doris Blackmon. All three were present with their families.

The SC Angus Hall of Fame class of 2009 was Billy McLeod and Bill Albritton. Billy was present. Bill Albritton’s family traveled from all over the states to accept the honor for Bill posthumously.

More inductees will be named at this year’s banquet.
