Our South Carolina Juniors will be on the move through more gates.
Note a big change in the date of the Beef Round-up. Due to the big 4-H horse show taking up the space the usual week-end in August, the Beef Round-Up has been moved to August 14-15. You may contact Larry Olson for entry forms for South Carolina Junior Beef Round-Up at lolson@clemson.edu, if you do not receive one by July 1.
Drake and Corbin Yon Earn Junior Bronze & Silver Awards
Gates and doors will be opening for the Yon boys. Drake and Corbin recently attained the bronze and silver awards from the American Angus Association.
American Angus Association released dual press releases on May 5, 2010 with this explanation of the awards:
“The Bronze and Silver awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards, then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.
The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for the nearly 6,500 active members nationwide.”

Here Angus producers, like our city neighbors, live in gated communities. However, the difference is we keep our gates closed to keep our Angus in, not to keep visitors out.
